 Job Description Summary

The Manager, Workplace Learning is responsible for advancing the University s goals with respect to enriched educational experiences and career development for UBC undergraduate and graduate students through experiential workplace learning opportunities both on and off campus. The incumbent leads the overall strategy for employment, volunteer and internship opportunities coordinated through the Centre for Student Involvement & Careers for undergraduate and graduate students and alumni; internal and external employer relationships; the development and strategic management all aspects of UBC s wage subsidy programs for students; the implementation and strategic use of the Centre s CRM technology, and; liaises with units and programs within the university to promote co-operative and collaborative communication with external employers and organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of five to six years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior higher education experience an asset. Experience designing and delivering complex programs including evaluating and measuring program effectiveness and outcomes required. Demonstrated ability to strategically design, implement, and evaluate experiential learning programs and educational curricula. Ability to strategically manage a complex budget with multiple funding sources. Ability to work effectively in teams and to develop and sustain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, employers, volunteers, and community members. Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing staff, preferably in a higher education environment. Ability to delegate, lead, motivate, coach and train staff. Excellent interpersonal skills and supervisory skills. Demonstrated ability to apply and evaluate literature, research, institutional data, and theoretical frameworks to establish, manage, and transform evidence-based programs and services. Excellent written and oral communication skills. A demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities of students and promote inclusion. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Further language abilities an asset. Excellent computer skills and willingness to learn new systems. Knowledge of career, employment and job search strategies used by students and alumni. Knowledge of Canadian Association of Career Educators (CACEE) standards and guidelines for ethical recruitment. Familiarity with human rights, labour legislation and current human resources practices. Knowledge of current trends in higher education, career development, graduate employability, and local, national, and international labour markets. Ability to work under pressure of critical deadlines. Ability to manage the complexity inherent within a multi-faceted work environment focused on broad outcomes for students. Knowledge of University systems, structures, processes, and decision making structures is an asset. Valid BC Drivers License and own transportation required. Ability to incorporate a varied workday (i.e. attend a variety of evening and weekend events year round).
